General information about us and our policies: We are proud to offer what we believe to be the best value in entertainment and dinner at a very low price for families. Kids 16 and under are free to our outdoor events (except for food) when accompanied by a paying adult. Who or what is the OakSong Society? The OakSong Society is a
non-profit music education organization. At present we are an umbrella group associated with the Shasta County
Arts Council. Our address is Post Office Box 904, Oak Run, California
96069. We started the organization to bring high quality, affordable music to
the foothills and mountains of Shasta county. We look for artists
passing close to our area who are willing to make the trip to our beautiful, but remote concert
location, Gray Pine Farm in Oak Run. Our indoor concerts are usually held at
Bernie's Guitar in Redding. What is Way Cool Music? Our definition of 'Way Cool' is fairly open. The major music gurus made up a new category to catch the various musical forms that didn't fall into the existing niches of Pop, Country, Rock & Roll, Soul, Rock, etc. They call it Americana Music. It includes folk, bluegrass, blues, zydeco, alternative country, "true" country, old time music and other forms of folk music, even some forms of Jazz. It's music created by wonderfully talented artists who just don't get a lot of radio air play because they can't be contained by the formula music of Nashville, L.A., New York or Detroit. Ninety-nine percent of the radio most people listen to is formula - it is pre-programmed by 'experts' so that you listen to the music they want you to hear. We also believe that people should have the opportunity to hear music in person. There is nothing better, in our minds, than a live concert in a small, comfortable setting. A concert where the artist is actually talking to you, and where they want to sign autographs. It's like having music on your front porch - "way cool." Can I become a member of the Society? You are when you
purchase a ticket and come to one of our concerts. We just don't keep membership
lists or charge dues. We do keep an email list to let folks know about
concerts or other special events. If you like, email us at
How can I volunteer to help? Non-profit
organizations need dependable people to help with all types of work and the
Oaksong Society is no different. If you would like to consider being a volunteer
please E-mail us at
What about kids? We love kids, they are the future, and we want to provide an easy and inexpensive way for them to learn to appreciate traditional sounds and create their own sound in the future. And the only way they can do either is to be exposed to roots- related music. At outdoor concerts they are welcome - for free - if they are 16 years old or under and accompanied by a paying adult. At indoor events the seating is too limited to allow kids to come in for free. The exception is when they will sit on your lap. Okay now click here to go to our Food & Other Stuff page with more information about what to expect at our concerts. |
How To purchase Tickets: Ticket Policy: Food: If you want dinner tickets should be purchased 2 days prior to the concert date. This is so we know how much to cook. The dinner menu varies but usually offers two entrées. Luau Ticket Policy: NO RESERVATIONS, and there are no "concert only" tickets available. No refunds, and the concerts are rain or shine. • For more information call the Society at 530-472-3065
