"They play their wooden instruments like they’re trying to set ‘em on fire. They’ve always emphasized rampaging rhythms and a hellbent attitude..." Nashville Scene The Wilders are an internationally touring string band from Kansas City, Missouri. Ike Sheldon (lead vocals, guitar), Betse Ellis (fiddle, vocals), Phil Wade (dobro, mandolin, banjo, vocals), and Nate Gawron (string bass, vocals) write and perform original songs, classic honky tonk, old time country, and fiddle tunes with engaging energy and spirit. The Wilders have gained critical acclaim and radio airplay throughout the United States and beyond. Since 1996, they have performed at festivals and concerts, on radio, television, and independent film soundtracks. In June 2002 The Wilders appeared on Minnesota Public Radio's "Prairie Home Companion" with Iris DeMent; they performed at the Kennedy Center in 2004, and on "Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour" in 2005. In 2006, The Wilders were selected to perform at the Famous Spiegeltent at Edinburgh Festival Fringe; their show sold out and they were honored for their performance with a coveted Herald Angel Award. The Oaksong Masters in Music Concert Series is a new series of occasional concerts designed to present those artists that we believe have profoundly influenced their genre of musical arts. Whether virtuoso instrument playing, vocals, songwriting, song interpretation or all of the above, the artists presented in this series exemplifies mastery of their craft. The concerts are usually about 90 minutes divided into two 45 minute sets with a 15 to 20 minute break between sets. They are designed to be a relaxed warm gathering for attendees and artists alike and feature a question-answer period usually just after the first break and before the beginning of the second set of music.

It's a rock & roll,
rock-a-billy evening of fun and dancing with...
Since forming in 1988, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys have emerged as one of the world's most respected practitioners of American roots music, western swing, rockabilly, and traditional country playing it like they invented it. "I think of us as just a rock and roll band. A rock and roll band that's letting the roots show," says bandleader Big Sandy. Whether they're playing the Grand Ole Opry, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, or simply climbing out of a bus after rolling into your town, these guys are bringing us some great old-time rock and roll. |
Coming this summer to the Gray Pine Farm Concert Series June 21, 2008 The
Minstrel of The Range Grammy nominated singer-guitarist Don Edwards continues to build a legacy that enriches our vision of the American West. In tales of the day-to-day lives and emotions of those who have lived it, his ballads paint a sweeping landscape of both mind and heart, keeping alive the sights, sounds and feelings of this most American contribution to culture and art. The quality of this cowboy balladeer’s music stems from the fact that he is so much more than a singer. Bobby Weaver of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, summed up Edwards’ importance as “... the best purveyor of cowboy music in America today.” July 5th
A Grammy-award winning
musician, Peter Rowan's career has spanned from Sea Train to Old & In
the Way to numerous solo and ensemble projects with Don Edwards, David
Grisman, Richard Greene and others. He is a soulful singer and a
poignant songwriter. He began his professional career playing guitar,
singing lead vocals and co-writing as a member of the Bluegrass Boys,
led by the founding father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe. He embarked on a
well-received solo career in the late '70s, releasing such diverse and
critically acclaimed albums as Dustbowl Children and Bluegrass Boy, as
well as much-admired collaborations with ace Dobro player Jerry Douglas,
Flaco Jimenez, and his brothers Christopher and Lorin Rowan.
